The 2020 Summer Olympics were halted due to the COVID-19 global pandemic. For the first time in history, the games were rescheduled and took place in the summer of 2021. Without the usual in-person fanfare, adidas wanted to find a way to recognize and celebrate its athletes as they competed on the world's stage. We took the tradition of trading Olympic pins and applied that behavior to bespoke trading cards. Not only were fans able to share the cards of athletes representing their country on social media, but our athletes were able to take home their own physical trading cards to commemorate the year's unforgettable Games.

We created over 50 limited edition trading cards featuring illustrations by Haruki Higashi and Aiko Fukuda.

As athletes received their cards at the Games, they shared on social with their fans.
